As some of you may (or may not) know, I embark on the odd musical project now and then. So yesterday, after looking through my Last.fm log and remembering I had an artist page, I thought I really should add a bio of myself.

Naturally, in the spirit I’m usually accustomed to, I copy and pasted Charles Darwin’s bio into the wiki box.

One of the moderator’s Wasn’t Impressed.

I then noticed he’d recently made a blog post on Last.fm wiki editing. Obviously, he’s had a lot of trouble with L337 Speaking Myspace users, and I thought that I’d make a nice legible comment on the blog, proving I’m not like that, and I’m just having a jolly little jape for the expense of anyone who ever came across my Artist profile there, adding that obviously my brand of anarchy wasn’t allowed (despite them having plenty of their own In jokes)

Obviously proving to him I could actually write grammatically correct sentences must’ve shocked him into not being able to form a response in any way. He just deleted the comment. The silly cock.

Now, It could be very easy right now to rip the piss out of HairMetalAddict. One look at that profile and you really start to wonder if he’s real or another Hasslehoff style In-Joke.

I could maybe have a laugh about his anal views on Web Design, or the fact for the last 3 years, he’s dedicated at least 1 hour every day, 1/16th of his waking life, listening to Alice Cooper, racking up 10,000+ plays (Not to mention all the other thousands of plays of other cock rock artists).

I could even tell everyone reading here with a scrobbler account should rename an MP3 “HairMetalAddict is a giant cock”, make sure I’m labeled as the artist, and play it from time to time. But I’m not going to.

See, although he is a cock, it’s not him I’m pissed with, but the failure of wiki in general to live up to its goal. As soon as you give people superuser/moderator status over others, the unbiased view and rights of the collective disappear. A wiki’d article’s life should never, ever be in the hands of one person. Sadly, theres always some cunt with power, and they will use it.

At least Wikipedia has Wikitruth showing how corrupt the system can be. Other wikis arent as lucky.
